Thailand : Tsunami Revival Program
The tsunami that struck on December 26, 2004, caused unprecedented death and destruction to the southern Thai provinces. Though Enterprise Asia was still in it’s formation during this time, we are deeply sadden by this tragedy and a call to action was needed to ensure a sustainable program is develop to revive this jewel part of Asia.
In partnership with the Millennium World Peace Foundation and AIESEC Thailand, our initial efforts were launch in 3 folds:

- On the immediate front; we seek help in obtaining funds from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and UniAsia Foundation (UAF). We were dedicated to assist small and medium size enterprises, entrepreneurs and community savings groups get refinanced and get back to business.
- For longer term development, Enterprise Asia and Millennium World Peace Foundation and AIESEC Thailand formed a group of local and foreign volunteers to design what is known as the “Tsunami Revival Action Program (TRAP)”. This three-year initiative focuses on building capacities to develop entrepreneurship capabilities. Modules include micro-financing, sustainable business modelling and marketing. Focus of development is on the major economy which is tourism. Our efforts were concentrated on the village of Taptawan communities, including the resort area of Phang Nga.
- Volunteer Program – Serve Thailand and Yourself – “V-STAY”. It has a focus on mutual benefit, providing hands-on assistance to tsunami victims and an opportunity for personal growth and adventure to the volunteers.
Results - Among the initiatives derived from our initiatives was a start-up restaurant and a batik studio enterprise by the Taptawan Youth Group. It is a cycle of assistance and change; tsunami victims are taking control of their lives and are in turn an inspiration for those who offered their help.
